The day of the decisive showdown had arrived.

“All right!” I said, trying to fire myself up in my room.

It was ten o’clock at night. The battle was due to begin in two hours, at exactly midnight.

We’d all been told to take the day off from demon work, heading straight home after school. The idea was to be as refreshed and rested as possible when the time came for the Rating Game.

Our plan was to meet in the clubroom thirty minutes before the beginning of the match. That gave me just over one hour. Still, my bedroom was the place where I could most relax, so I wanted to stay there for as long as I could.

If I was to go to the clubroom ahead of time, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from fretting. Even as I tried to rest in my room, I was more nervous than I’d been during my high school entrance exams…

I was wearing my school uniform; I’d thought that the most appropriate. When I’d asked the prez whether we should have a sort of team combat uniform, she’d brushed my question aside with a smile: “If my Familia has a uniform, it has to be that of Kuou Academy. We are the Occult Research Club, after all.”

Thus, my school uniform had become my battle uniform. That said, I guess I could have gone with a martial-arts outfit or something if I’d wanted to…

There was a mountain of banana peels next to me. I had already finished eating the fruit and was close to perfecting my special technique that I had been working on since the first day of our training camp.

I can do this! This is my new ultimate technique!

Knock-knock, came a sound from my door. It had to have been Asia.

“Issei, can I come in?” she asked.

“Ah, sure.”

When she entered my room, I was completely taken aback after seeing her outfit.

It was a nun’s outfit. Of course, she wasn’t carrying any rosaries, nor was she wearing a veil over her head.

“Asia, what are you…?”

“I—I know. When I asked the president, she told me to wear whatever I felt most comfortable in. I didn’t really know what to choose, but then I thought that this would be easiest to move around in… I may not be a servant of the Lord anymore, but I haven’t renounced my faith. Even if I am a demon now…”

It seemed Asia had put a lot of thought into it.

There was no small amount of courage involved in dressing like a nun for a battle between demons, but if that was what she had decided, then I wasn’t about to voice any complaint. I was sure Rias would brush it off with a laugh.

“I see. I suppose you do look most natural in that. Your school uniform suits you, too, you know, but seeing as this is what you were wearing when we first met, I guess it’s kind of how I always imagine you.
